Bush Says Pulling Troops From Iraq Now Would be a Mistake

President Bush says he understands and respects the views of anti-war advocates who want U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq, but that it would be a mistake to bring them home now. Mr. Bush said Thursday at his Crawford, Texas ranch he understands the anguish some feel about the deaths that take place. But, he said pulling out the troops would send a terrible signal to the enemy and betray the Iraqis. The remarks come as the mother of a 24-year-old soldier killed in Iraq remains encamped along a road near Mr. Bush's ranch. Cindy Sheehan has vowed to stay put until she can speak to Mr. Bush about her son Casey. Two senior officials spoke to Mrs. Sheehan Saturday and told her the president really did care.
