Bush Says Democratic Constitution Will Be a Landmark for Iraq

President Bush says Iraq's leaders are completing work on a democratic constitution -- in his words "defying terrorists and pessimists."

He made the remark during a speech on Monday in Utah aimed at boosting support for the war in Iraq.

Mr. Bush spoke at a Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention in Salt Lake City. He told the veterans that the United States had defeated fascism and communism, and would also defeat the hateful ideology of terrorists.

The president interrupted his vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas for a cross-country trip this week to deliver two speeches on the Iraq war and the war on terrorism.

An anti-war rally was planned near the convention site.
