Bush, Putin Discuss Iran, North Korea Nuclear Issues

President Bush says he and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, share the same goal of not wanting Iran and North Korea to have nuclear weapons. Mr. Bush was speaking at a joint news conference at the White House after the two leaders held talks Friday.

Mr. Putin confirmed they agreed on the same goal regarding Iran and North Korea, but said diplomatic solutions in resolving the issues have not yet been exhausted. Mr. Putin also said he believes Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons -- contrary to assertions from Washington.

President Bush said he is confident that Iran will be referred to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions if Tehran does not meet its agreements on nuclear non-proliferation. Mr. Bush also said he hopes to complete the negotiations for Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization by the end of this year.
