Indian police say they have arrested a Pakistani on spying charges after they recovered from him a military report on the 1999 Kargil-clash in Kashmir between the two neighbors.
Police identified the man as Azeem Ali alias Sumer Ali, and said one of his alleged contacts is being questioned. Police say the documents he had on him dealt with an inquest by India into the six-week 1999 battle when Indian troops evicted Pakistani forces from Kashmir's Kargil mountains. He was arrested while allegedly mailing the documents out of India.
The arrest came a day after Indian and Pakistani leaders met in New York and discussed, among other things, the fate of an Indian national sentenced to death for spying in Pakistan.
