New Food Act in Bangladesh Creates Mixed Reaction


Bangladesh Parliament amended and passed the Pure Food Act 2005 to curb food adulteration. Under the new law, sellers of adulterated unsafe food will be severely punished with fines and jail term. President of Consumer Association of Bangladesh, Qazi Farruk feels the punishment is not strong enough. Whereas, a restaurant owner Mohammad Nezamuddin feels these punishments are appropriate.
