Putin Meets Indian Prime Minister in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have met in Moscow for talks on trade and defense cooperation.

Mr. Singh described his country's relationship with Russia as very special when it comes to matters of defense. The two countries are discussing joint development of a medium-range transport aircraft and a sophisticated fighter plane.

Mr. Putin added that Russia and India need to increase trade. Indian officials earlier said India wants to boost the annual one-point-eight-billion dollars worth of trade with Russia.

Several key agreements were signed in the presence of the two men on Tuesday, including an accord on protecting intellectual property rights during joint research. Mr. Putin also said Russia is ready to increase nuclear cooperation with India.
