Patricia A Butenis, the new US Ambassador to Bangladesh has arrived on Monday to take up her diplomatic assignment in Bangladesh .
Butenis, is the 12th US envoy in Bangladesh since America opened its diplomatic mission in Dhaka .
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Butenis was the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Islamabad (2004-2006). She has also served in the US missions in Karachi, New Delhi, San Salvador, Bogota, Warsaw, and Washington.
Chargé d' Affaires Judith Ann Chammas was in charge of the Dhaka mission since ambassador Harry K. Thomas left Dhaka on July 2, 2005.
