West Bengal Government Signs Agreement with Salem Group of Industries

Billed as an investment that would change the face of West Bengal, the state's communist government Monday signed a historic deal with the Salem Group of Indonesia for investments up to Rs.200 billion ($4.2 billion) in infrastructure development.

Under the agreement, the 'New Kolkata International Development' project promises to change the face of the region with expressways, flyovers, bridges, townships, health cities and economic zones. The deal marks a new beginning in the development of West Bengal.

Salem Group's executive director Benny Santoso and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya were present at the signing ceremony at the ITC Sonar Bangla Hotel here Monday.
