Islamic Chhatra Shibir is the students’ branch of the fundamentalist party Jama’at –e-Islami , a partner in four party alliance government in Bangladesh. Members of this student’s group have threatened the Dean of the Applied Science of Shahjalal University in Sylhet, Professor Jafar Iqbal who is also a renowned writer of Science fiction and a regular columnist in different newspapers in Bangladesh.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Jafar Iqbal alleges that these students are directly linked with the outgoing four party alliance government. He says an alleged killer of a Professor of Rajshahi University was freed under the blessings of this alliance government.
Jafar Iqbal says that he is not very much worried about these threats because he considers them not as a political force , but merely as members of criminal groups which opposed the Bangladesh War of Liberation back in 1971.
