Indo- Bangladesh Security Personnel Agree to Co-operate

A six-day border conference between Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in New Delhi ended today, agreeing to co operate each other in reducing border tension and combating cross-border crimes.

Director General of BDR Maj Gen Shakil Ahmed and BSF DG AK Mitra signed a joint record of discussion after the conference. The Director General level meeting began Monday with a long list of issues between the two next-door neighbors, separated by a long-drawn porous frontier.

Killing or injuring by the BSF, "unprovoked" firing by the Indian border guards, trafficking in illegal arms and ammunition, and smuggling of explosive and narcotic substances, including phensidyl, heroin and hemp from India, were discussed in the conference, a BDR news release said.
