The World Bank’s vice-president for South Asia, Praful C Patel, said on Saturday that the bank will assist the Anti-Corruption Commission to recover the assets stolen and smuggled away from the country by corrupt people in the past, said the bank’s.
Extending support to various activities of the interim government, he, however, cautioned that checks and balance should be designed to minimize abuse of power within the current structure of governance.
Familiar with the Bangladesh situation for quite a few years, Patel expressed readiness of the World Bank and other funding organizations to provide continued assistance to the caretaker government to carry out the ongoing reforms.
