Bangladesh Supreme Court to Decide on Hasina’s Bail Issue on August 26

Bangladesh Supreme Court on Thursday set August 26 for deciding over the two regular petitions filed by the government seeking stay on the bail granted by the High Court to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in two extortion cases.

The six-member full court of the Appellate Division, chaired by the Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin after a prolonged hearing of the two petitions, set the date after Rafique-ul-Huq, a counsel for Hasina, sought time from the bench to defer the judgement.

Attorney general Fida M Kamal appealed for an interim order to stay Hasina’s bail orders, but the court rejected the plea, lawyers said.

The highest court also on August 26 will hear the third petition filed by government seeking to halt the August 7 High Court order that stayed the Anti-Corruption Commission’s notification for Hasina’s wealth statements.
