Dhaka and Islamabad Bilateral Talks Ended, Both Sides Optimistic

Bangladesh and Pakistan Thursday agreed to raise annual bilateral trade to one billion dollar from less than $300 million now as foreign secretaries ended their talks in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka
Pakistan foreign secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan told a joint press conference at state guest house Padma after a two-day meeting that it is a challenge and they need very serious work together and need to come up with innovative ideas to reach the target,
Touhid Hossain, acting foreign secretary of Bangladesh said that they agreed on ‘early harvest program’ giving duty-free access to some products from each country to boost the volume of trade.
Despite having agreement on enhanced economic cooperation, the official talks failed to resolve some long-pending thorny issues, especially distribution of assets, repatriation of stranded Pakistanis and unconditional apology from Islamabad for the atrocities committed on Bangladeshi people by the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.
