Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) observed the 29th Foundation Day on Saturday.
BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan led the wreath- laying ceremony at the grave of the party founder, Ziaur Rahman. Amongst others present were also Brigadier (Retired) Hannan Shah, who is widely known as the closest aide to Khaleda Zia. They offered fateha and prayed for salvation of the departed soul of the slain president.
The authorities did not allow Khaleda Zia, the immediate-past prime minister, to come out of her cantonment residence and pay homage to the late leader for what they termed as security reasons.
Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar and Deputy Speaker Akther Hamid Siddique placed wreaths separately. Senior BNP leaders were unhappy to find that Khaleda was not allowed to go to Zia’s grave on the occasion of the foundation ceremony of the party.
