26 People Killed in Sri Lanka Violence

Sri Lanka's military says at least 26 people have been killed in a fresh wave of violence in the island's embattled north.

The defense ministry says two soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb set off by suspected Tamil Tigers in the Jaffna peninsula Friday night. The ministry said seven soldiers were wounded in the attack.

In the same region, authorities said security forces killed 10 Tamil Tigers when they tried to break through army defense lines on Friday. The military said another 14 rebels were killed Friday in two confrontations in the district of Vavuniya.
