Trinamool Congress Observes Strike in West Bengal

A 12-hour agitation called by Trinamool Congress severely affected normal life in West Bengal. The strike was called to protest the continuing violence in Nandigram.

Roads in the metropolis and adjoining suburbs were mostly deserted. Most of the shops and commercial establishments were closed as were the educational institutions.

Police arrested people and there were small clashes but nothing significant.

In one incident CPM cadres allegedly beat up Trinamool Congress supporters with batons snatched from police at Rajballavpara in north Kolkata.

Gautam Gupta has more on the story.
