Disease Spread in Cyclone-affected Areas


As the shortage of food and pure drinking water is getting acute the risk of diarrhea and other diseases are on increase in the cyclone affected areas of Bangladesh.

The news is pouring in from different places that stomach problems are on the rise in some of the cyclone affected regions. A local journalist from Barisal went to different places and found that people are now threatened with the disease.

One of the largest NGO’s in Bangladesh BRAC, in its report collected from more than three hundred representatives of BRAC, says that there are acute shortages of food and safe drinking water in many places.

The Executive Director of BRAC says that food supply is immediately needed to save these people. In some places since water has become salty, it is undrinkable and hence until fresh water is supplied the lives of people living there remains in danger.
