The government on Sunday formed a three-member committee to investigate the Saturday night’s collapse of the top floors of the 22-storey Rangs Bhaban on the city’s Bijoy Sarani that left three people dead and 16 more missing, feared to be trapped in the debris.
At least 15 persons were reportedly injured in the collapse. Following a court order declaring the construction of the 15 top floors of the high-rise office building illegal, the government had engaged a private firm, Six Star Corporation, to demolish them.
Officials from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and the housing and public works ministry visited the spot immediately after the accident on Saturday night, he said, adding that he did not find any neglect of duty on the part of the officials concerned behind the collapse. He said the government was considering providing compensations for those killed in the accident.
