Bangladesh Authorities Denies taking Decisions on  Hilsa Fish Export


Authorities in Bangladesh have dismissed media reports in India which said that Bangladesh was lifting its ban on the export of Padma Hilsa to India. The first consignment is likely to arrive in the second week of January.

When the attention of the Advisor for Fisheries for the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh C S Karim was drawn to this news, he said Bangladesh authorities have taken no such decisions.The export of Hilsa fish has been banned since last July.

Over the past few months members of Hilsa Fish Importers Association had met Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Fisheries Minister Kironmoy Nanda in this regard. A delegation had also met the Bangladesh High Commissioner to discuss the issue.

It is learnt that both Mr Pranab Mukherjee and Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee have discussed this issue with the Bangladeshi authorities.
