Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee launched a new political alliance, the Progressive Secular Democratic Front on Sunday.
Terming it as an alternative to the ruling Left Front, Mamata Banerjee said that this marks a new political era. The alliance includes 16 parties. It does not include Congress, BJP, SUCI and PDS, the major opposition parties of West Bengal. Some of the parties that have joined the new front include Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal (U), Janata Dal (S) and Indian Union Muslim League.
