Fulbright Scholar Syeda Farzana Sultana Teaches Bangla At NC State University, University of NC


Syeda Farzana Sultana is a Senior Lecturer in English at the Asian University of Bangladesh.

She was awarded Fulbright FLTA scholarship for 2007/2008 and is currently teaching Bangla in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at North Carolina State University and at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Fulbright FLTA scholarship is given to English teachers every year. It is given by the US Department of State and is administered by International Institute of Education (IIE). This year 376 FLTAs have been brought to the US from 45 countries of the world to teach 29 languages.

The Fulbright FLTAs are considered language teachers as well as cultural ambassadors. They teach their mother languages to the US students and experience the US culture, learn English language to teach better back in their own countries. All FLTAs have to take two courses per semester in their host institutes. As a part of the program they all participate in two workshops for their professional development.

Four people have been awarded this scholarship from Bangladesh for 2007-2008.
