Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury Challenged Anti Corruption Commission

Former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s political affairs adviser Salauddin Quader Chowdhury filed a writ petition on Sunday challenging the legal authority of the Anti-Corruption Commission in suing him on charge of amassing illegal wealth.

In the writ petition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party stalwart also claimed the commission was constituted illegally.

As the commission has been reconstituted in violation of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, all the actions taken by the commission, including initiation of the case, sanction in placing the case for trial under the Emergency Power Rules, taking cognizance of the case by special court that deals with high-profile corruption suspects and continuation of the trial, are without lawful authority, Salauddin, also a former minister, said in the petition.
