Cherie Blair, the wife of Britain's former prime minister Tony Blair, attended a court hearing in the case against Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.
Ms. Blair is an attorney, and is on a private visit in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka. She told journalists that she is observing judicial proceedings and evaluating the human rights situation in the country.
Ms. Hasina has been detained since last July on extortion and corruption charges. Her Awami League party is demanding her release.
Ms. Blair is also expected to speak with lawyers, politicians and human rights activists during her visit to Bangladesh, which began on Tuesday.
Amir Khasru has more on the story.
