Britain will Not Support Military Intervention in Bangladeshi Politics

The outgoing British Ambassador Anwar Choudhury in a press briefing said on Monday that Britain will never support military intervention or martial law in Bangladesh.

Expressing his optimism about the election in December, the British Ambassador said that Britain will take a tough policy if election is not held in Bangladesh by December 2008. He made this remark while addressing a press conference organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents of different media houses at National Press club yesterday.

Responding to a question regarding lifting the emergency before the general polls, Anwar Choudury said the emergency should be withdrawn before the general elections or should at least be relaxed before the polls for creating a congenial atmosphere required for a free, fair and credible election.
