Four Former Ministers of BNP-Jamaat Coalition Government  Grilled on Corruption Charges


The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday quizzed four former ministers of the BNP led four party alliance government at the Dhaka Central Jail gate in connection with the Barapukuria coal mine graft case.

ACC deputy director and investigation officer of the case Monirul Huq interrogated ex-LGRD minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, ex-industries minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, ex-information minister M Shamsul Islam, all arrested in Gatco case and ex-health minister Dr Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain.

Nizami was the first to be interrogated for about one and a half hours . ACC later interrogated M Shamsul Islam for about 25 minutes and Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan about 25 minutes before the lunch. Dr Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain was interrogated for about one hour .

Barrister Abdur Razzak was present during the interrogation of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami as his lawyer while Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kazol was present during interrogation of M Shamsul Islam as his lawyer. No lawyers on behalf of Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Dr Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain were present during their interrogation.

ACC deputy director Monirul Huq said that all the four ex-ministers claimed themselves innocent saying that they signed the Barapukaria deal as members of the Cabinet Committee on Purchase following recommendation of the cabinet committee, as per the rules of business.
