Bangladeshi journalist Angur Nahar Monty is visiting United States on the invitation of State Department.
She attended a US State Department program on press, titled “ The Nuts and Bolts of American Election: An insider’s look on how to run an election. Monty is a diplomatic correspondent for Bhorer Kagoj, a Bengali Daily in Dhaka.
In an interview with Voice of America’s Bangla Service, she said that she has been familiarizing herself with the system of election in USA, a champion of democracy. Monty also spoke about the relationship between democracy and free media and adds that despite the odds, media in Bangladesh has been playing a vibrant role there.
Monty also said that the partisanship in journalism would only go away when the newspapers can be owned by professionals and not politically motivated individuals.
