The north Bengal CPM leader and minister, Ashok Bhattacharya has been divested of his party responsibility to look after the Darjeeling affairs.
Political circles are interpreting this as the first casualty of the separatist Gorkhaland agitation.
The party feels Bhattacharya has failed to gauge the changing political mood in the hills and alert the party on time. Another leader has been given the task of looking after hill affairs.
