Scores of garment workers, who took to street and staged demonstration demanding increase in their salary to cope with price hike, clashed with police at Shewrapara at Mirpur. At least 30 people were injured in the clasah.
The agitated ready-made garments (RMG) factory workers put barricade on Rokeya
Sarani in Mirpur-10, disrupting traffic movement for about three hours causing
a severe traffic jam on the busy roads and the adjoining alleys. Hundreds of
passengers of different routes suffered a lot due the traffic congestion.

Factory located at Shewrapara in Mirpur took to the street at around 8am and staged demonstration demanding salary
hike. They also protested against the decision of the garments factory
authorities relating to dismissal of some of their fellow workers.
Garment workers of the adjoining factories
expressed solidarity and joined hands with the agitating workers. The
demonstrators went on the rampage and started damaging vehicles stranded on
both sides of the roads.
On information, huge contingents of law enforcers including RAB and riot police
rushed to scene and charged batons in order to disperse the mob, triggering a
fierce clash between the workers and the police.
The unruly workers threw brickbats and stones targeting the cops. A series of
chase and counter-chase took place at that time. At least 30 people were
injured in the three-hour-long clash.
The law enforcers brought the situation under control at around 12.30pm.
