Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of the
detained former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was on Sunday exempted from personal
appearance in a special court during proceedings in the Bashundhara Group
bribery case.
Shahed Nooruddin, the judge of the special judge's court 3 set up in the Jatiya Sangsad complex, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Tarique seeking exemption from personal appearance in the court on health ground and permission to go abroad for better treatment.
BNP's senior joint secretary Tarique
was brought to the court premises by an ambulance, but was not produced in the
court as he was unable to sit, court sources and his lawyers said.
On June 15, the same court exempted Tarique's younger brother Arafat Rahman from personal appearance in court during the proceedings in the GATCO graft case, but held back the petition filed by Tarique's counsels.
