President Ziaur Rahman came to Washington in August 1980 and
had talks with President Carter at the White House. Earlier, he addressed a
special session of UNGA in New York.
In this interview he spoke on
US-Bangladesh bilateral relations and his meeting with President Carter. He
also spoke on his UN visit and his initiative and the response from India and
Pakistan regarding the formation of a South Asian Forum.
Zia was the
first South Asian leader who took initiative to form a South Asian Regional
Forum --now known as SAARC--which was formed in the mid 1980's after his death.
