Rasheda K Chowdhury is the Advisor of the present caretaker government in Bangladesh. She is in charge of the Ministries of Primary and Mass Education Women and Children Affairs and Cultural Affairs. Recently she came to New York as a member of Bangladeshi delegation in the UN General Assembly.
In this interview, Ms Chowdhury talks about her official engagements. She says that her responsibility has been to look at the developments of women and children in the light of Millennium development program and the issue of gender equality.
In answer to a question that as Africa is gradually getting focused in the UN , Bangladesh is being deprived , Rasheda Chowdhury says we need to understand that African continent has been lagging behind for ages in all the indices of development. She therefore, feels it strongly, that Africa should get priority in the UN programs.
However she adds that in South Asia where most people live , if UN s focus is lost then it would be a point to ponder. They are trying to draw attention of all development partners on this issue.
