World Leaders Telephone US President-Elect

US President-elect Barack Obama has received several more telephone calls from world leaders wishing to discuss future relations with the United States.

In the latest calls, Mr. Obama spoke with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Polish President Lech Kaczynski. According to China's state-run Xinhua news service, Mr. Obama and Mr. Hu discussed the global financial crisis and cooperation between the two countries. Russian officials say Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Obama agreed to arrange a prompt meeting. Russian officials say international stability requires constructive and positive relations between the two countries.

An aide to Mr. Obama says he did not give Poland any commitment in regard to a planned missile defense shield. Polish President Kaczynski claimed Saturday that Mr. Obama indicated he would go ahead with plans to install the system in eastern Europe. Russia strongly opposes the system.
