Welcoming
the Election Commission's (EC) decision to reschedule the election, BNP
chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia urged the government to lift the state of
emergency and to suspend section 90 (E) of the RPO as per their previous
proposal.
The former prime minister argued that since the government also wants to hold an acceptable, free and fair election, it should ensure a congenial atmosphere for that. She said that people of the country also want lifting of the state of emergency as they believe that a free and fair election is not possible under the emergency.
Khaleda also opposed 91(e) of the RPO, saying that if the election commission stands for fair and competitive elections, why so many hassles over this point.
