Malisa  Ali, a College Freshman pays Tributes to the Martyrs of Bengali Language Movement  


Malisa Ali is in Freshman year at college. She is studying Pre- medicine with a double major in Journalism and Sociology, and looking into a Chemistry and Community minor. She grew up in Long Island, New York and is very passionate Bangladeshi.

She currently holds the position of Event Coordinator in an organization known as Bengalis United. She is intensely involved in the Bangladeshi community, singing and reciting Bengali poetry at various events. She is also involved with WUSB Radio.

Malisa also attended the Presidential Debates 2008 between Barack Obama and John McCain at Hofstra University. She reported about this trip live on the radio for WUSB News.

Just like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, had a dream about America, she says she too has a dream about the great nation of Bangladesh. She has a dream that Bangladesh will achieve its fullest potential. She has a dream that the Bangladesh that the Freedom Fighters fought for, the Bangladesh that people lost their lives for, will come to be a great country. She has a dream that the Bangladesh that all of us Bangladeshis envision around the world will come to be.

In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Malisa talks about the history of the language movement of Bangladesh and takes a keen interest and deep pride in it.
