Sagar Lohani, the Co-ordinator of Dhaka City 400th Anniversary Festival Talks to VOA


The Dhaka City 400th Anniversary Festival Committee has recently honored 23 intellectuals from Bangladesh for their valuable contributions during the Language Movement in the erstwhile East Bengal. The War of Liberation of 1971 , in effect, started from the Language Movement of 1952 which was meant to establish freedom relating to Bengali Language as well as to Bengali culture.

Finally through a glorious victory in the War of Liberation , people of Bangladesh ushered into a new age of freedom and liberty , not only of the language but more importantly of the whole nation.

In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla, Sagar Lohani says that they have in fact paid their tributes to those Soldiers of Language , as they are widely known in Bangladesh , who have fought for preserving the honor and dignity of Bengali language in 1948 and 1952. Of the 23 people 18 were present in this Honor Award Ceremony .
