Bangladesh
Parliament, the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) became lively and eventful on Monday as the
opposition lawmakers, ending weeks of boycott, returned to the House amidst a
rousing welcome by the treasury benchers.
The opposition lawmakers in the
House became very much critical to the immediate past caretaker government and
demanded trial of army chief Moeen U Ahmed, former president Iajuddin Ahmed and
caretaker government chief Fakhruddin Ahmed for "torturing people" in
the two years of emergency government.
They also opposed the move for
approval of the deeds of the army-backed government including the fiscal budgets
passed during the past two years.
The JS passed two new laws on
Monday , one for an independent Election Commission and the other on electoral
rolls, with almost the same content as the previous caretaker government
ordinances.
Before the
House starts business of the day, chief whip of the Opposition Joynal Abedin
Faruk took floor on point of order and gave explanation on boycotting the first
session of the ninth parliament for 17 days.
He raised question on neutrality
of the Speaker on making seating arrangement and demanded a 'respectable
solution' to the row.
