Somnath Chatterjee who is an elected Member of Parliament from Bolpur in West Bengal , and also an expelled CPM Leader, said that he was retiring from Politics. This eighty year old politician had already said before that he would retire from politics
In a program in Delhi Somnath said that he wants to prove that even politicians can retire from politics. He said that after he was elected to parliament in 2004 , his party wanted him to be the Speaker . When he did not give his consent , the party approached Jyoti Basu and on Mr Basu’s insistence Somnath Chatterjee accepted ths post of Lok Sabha Speaker. His objectibity and neutrality has been praised by all party.
