Indian Foreign Secretary Visits Bangladesh

Indian Foreign Secretary (FS) Shiv Shankar Menon on Monday said that India has proposed Bangladesh to send a delegation to the site of the Tipaimukh barrage on the Barak river, so that the Bangladesh side could have a first- hand view of the project.

"From outside you cannot be aware of the real situation. If such a visit takes place, that could help remove the concerns of Bangladesh side," he said while talking to journalists following his meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.

The Indian Foreign Secretary who left Dhaka yesterday following a sudden visit said that the entire gamut of Bangladesh-India relations was discussed in his meetings with the Bangladesh leaders including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Army chief General Moeen U Ahmed and Foreign Secretary Touhid Hossain.
Narrating the goal of his visit, Menon said such visit might take place between the two neighbouring and friendly countries and that it was a normal phenomenon.

The Indian Foreign Secretary said that they had discussed the issue of regional security but the issue of formation of the South Asian Task Force was not discussed.
