khan, in this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla, evaluates the evolution of
Bangla New Year in Bangladesh. He says that although at one point it was
confined to the traders world where this Bangla New Year was celebrated by
opening a new ledger book known as Halkhata. But now it has gone beyond
the covers of the ledger books to the real life of the Bengalis in Bangladesh.
Abed Khan is an eminent journalist and a media personality in Bangladesh.
He recalls the days when Bangladesh was part of Pakistan and Bengalis were
culturally subjugated. However even then as a mark of protests Bengalis
celebrated Bangla New Year, he says .
In this interview he discusses the hopes and problems of the previous year and
expresses his expectations in the new year.
