The
spokesman for U.S. President Barack Obama says the president is inviting the
Israeli, Palestinian and Egyptian leaders for talks at the White House in the
coming weeks.
Robert Gibbs Tuesday did not say when those separate meetings with Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will take place.
Earlier, President Obama said he expects the Israelis and Palestinians to make
"gestures of good faith" in the coming months, in an effort to revive
the Middle East peace process.
Mr. Obama spoke after a White House meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah.
The president said he would not detail what those gestures of good faith may
be, saying that the parties in the region know what kind of confidence measures
might be helpful.
He said talk cannot go on "forever" and that at some point, concrete
steps have to be taken so people can see progress on the ground.
