Police unearthed a powerful
clandestine radio transmission center at a college dormitory in the town last
night and arrested a student identified as an Islami Chhatra Shibir
"cadre", a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami party
Acting on secret information, police raided Alam student dorm near Zia Hall of
Satkhira Government College at night and discovered the radio station inside
room no 14.
Kamrul Hasan Suman, Honours
2nd-year student of Political Science Department of the government college,
"was caught in the act while communicating with his party leaders through
the center", police said.
Police said a militant organization had been sending and receiving information
to and from the radio centre for last few months.
Some 20 to 25 people can talk
together through the centre, capable of communicating within 4-km-area around
its location, they said. On preliminary interrogation, Suman reportedly
admitted that he used to collect different information about his organization
and also pass command using the radio.
The cops searched out FM Radio, radio-transmission circuit, earphone and other
electronic equipment, jihad books and CDs from the room of Suman, who claims
himself as an ICS activist.
