Roopa Ganguly, an acclaimed actress, started her acting career in the mid 80s in Calcutta, India. Since then she has played important roles in many award winning films. She thinks Bangla cinema has expanded its viewership in recent years across the globe. Intricate human relationships have been explored in Bangla films in numerous ways, she adds.
In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, Rupa Ganguly recalls her ancestral link with Bangladesh and talks about her connections with Bangladesh during the shooting of the movie Podda Nodir Majhi. She thinks that joint production of films between Bangladesh and West Bengal should be encouraged.
She adds after all these years of partition people have not forgotten the sorrow of separation and still there is special feelings for Bangladesh in West Bengal.
She says over the years Bengali films have evolved to an international standard and in different film festivals, they are getting their places.
