A suspected militant on Wednesday seized the Halibanj
BTCL office for three and a half hours and threatened to blow it up.
Shahed, a 35 year old male, held a
child, Akash, hostage and stormed into the building with bombs attached to him.
He threatened to blow the building up and asked everyone to vacate the
building. He held Akash and Sub-Assistant Engineer Arab Ali hostage while he
demanded to speak with the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of Halibanj

offered his cell phone to Shahed to make calls and then freed Akash. In the
meantime, Arab Ali managed to escape by saying he had to offer his asr prayers.
asked Shahed to surrender and Shahed requested half an hour, after which he set
out bombs and tried to escape. Law enforcers shot him several times and
has denied being a part of a military group, but only after investigation,
it can be concluded as to whether Shahed is part of a larger organization.
