Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil resigned from the party just two days ahead of the scheduled Awami League National Council.
Citing frustration with the party for not allowing him to participate in the preparations for the National Council, Abdul Jalil announced his resignation from his Dhaka residence.
However, he insists that he continues to support the Awami League party in its goals and platforms.
Mr. Jalil has been the party's General Secretary since being elected on December 26, 2002.
During the interim government, Mr. Jalil was taken into police custody and allegedly made unflattering comments about the Awami League leadership. During that time, he was also in Singapore for a six month medical leave due to poor health.
