United States Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton’s recent visit to India marked an era of deeper relations and partnerships between the two nations. This also exemplified the rising role of India in the world. The two countries engaged in strategic dialogue, dealing with issues from education to climate change, with participants from the business, education and government sectors.
Although the two countries had a history of antagonism during the Cold War, this relationship had taken a turn under the presidency of Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton has said that the Obama administration wants to further deepen its ties with India.
Hillary Clinton has secured the expanding relations between the two countries by agreeing on multibillion dollar contracts for US nuclear power-plant builders, which in turn will allow billions of dollars in sales for American defense contractors.
The Obama administration has designated India as a crucial partner by inviting India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a guest in a White House state visit, making him the first foreign leader to make a visit such as this under the new administration.
