With Burma continuing
construction of barbed wire fences along its border with Bangladesh and
mounting additional troops, tension has escalated between the two countries.
It is learnt that three BDR companies have been deployed in the Border
Observatory Post (BoP) in Bandarban this week.
DG of BDR Major General Md Mainul
Islam on Saturday said that the
reinforcement of the BDR was made as part of its the reconstruction.
It should not be interpreted as any counter measure, he said adding that the
recent increase of the incidents of infiltration and smuggling also prompted
the BDR to take the action.
Local BDR commander Major Sazzad
told newsmen that he also informed the authority about the situation.
"BDR remains alert to the situation. So far, no untoward incident has
occurred" he said adding that the Burmese border forces were erecting fences on their
side 100 to 150 yards from the zero point.
It is learnt that the Burmese border security force suddenly deployed
additional forces along the border yesterday.
Earlier, Nasaka, the Burmese border force, started erecting barbed-wire fence
from pillar No 41 to 45 on their side during the vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr.
