Strong disapproval of the Congress forming the Siliguri municipal board with Left support has been voiced by both Congress and Left leaders. Congress High Command in Delhi has denied any prior knowledge of the deal. TMC leaders are livid and said that it is a Congress-CPM ploy to harm their party.
It is one arrangement that all parties are finding hard to swallow and harder to explain. A day after Congress dumpedits ally Trinamool Congress and tied up with the Left to form the municipal board in Siliguri, both camps were at pains to explain the event as a one-off case.
In Delhi, AICC general secretary in charge of Bengal Keshav Rao tried to pass off the sudden change in equations as a local issue without wider ramifications. But the unease in the Congress camp saw veteran leader and Jalpaiguri MLA Deba Prasad Roy resign from the post of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president in protest.
