Bangladesh PM Leaves for CHOGM Meeting


Prime minister Sheikh Hasina left here last night for Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago in South America, on a six-day official visit to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
A flight of Emirates airlines carrying the Prime Minister and the Bangladesh delegation took off from the Zia International Airport at about 10:25pm.

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain would inaugurate the Commonwealth summit meet on November 27 (Friday) at the Cultural Centre in Port of Spain.
Hasina, who is leading a high-profile Bangladesh delegation, is among 52 leaders attending the summit of the leaders from the former British colonies, including Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The prime minister's entourage includes foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni,
Ambassador-at-Large M Ziauddin, foreign secretary Mohammad Mijarul Quayes, Bangladesh high commissioner to London Dr M Saidur Rahman Khan and prime minister's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad.
Apart from attending the inaugural function of CHOGM at the National Academy for Performing Arts (NAPA), the Bangladesh premier is expected to hold a meeting with her host-country counterpart and attend a lunch to be hosted by him.
Besides, she will attend a dinner to be hosted by Queen Elizabeth II and a joint reception to be accorded by the Prime Minister of the host country and the Commonwealth Secretary-General.

During her six-day stay in the South American country, Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit Bangladesh Trade Centre and enjoy a T20 cricket match there.
The Prime Minister will leave the Caribbean country on December 2 for Dhaka via London and Dubai. She is expected to return home on December 4.
