President Zillur Rahman, also the chancellor of the
University of Dhaka, on Saturday put out a call for the university graduates to
be attuned to human values through self-purification in an era of technological
revolution.
‘In an era of technological revolution, we need to be attuned
to human values.
And it warrants self-purification. Knowledge will lead us to
that way of self-purification,’ the president said at the 45th convocation of
the university held in its playground.
He also called on the graduates to get fully involved in the advancement of information technology and biotechnology to march towards development in the competitive world.
Honoris causa Doctor of Science was conferred on Taiwanese
Nobel laureate chemist Yuan T Lee and Granger Challenge Award winner alumnus of
the university Abul Hussam.
Austria-based Indian historian Ranajit Guha, who initiated a genre called subaltern studies, was also given Doctor of Literature degree honoris causa.
Students of Dhaka university enjoyed the convocation program.
