Abu Bakar Siddique, a student of Dhaka University who was seriously injured in campus violence on Monday succumbed to his death in Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 9:30 am on Wednesday.
Abu Bakar was injured in the clash between Chhatra League factions. He was in his third year as an Islamic History student. Following the death of their fellow student, angry Dhaka University students clashed with police on campus. The police responded by firing teargas shells. Students of the Islamic History department went on a rampage smashing the Proctor’s office and three vehicles. The “Progressive Students Alliance” held a procession protesting Bakar’s death and demanding the punishment of the people who caused his death.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University said that the authorities will investigate the circumstance that led to the death of the student and it will punish those who are responsible for the incident.
